Last Breath - "Clear Conscience"

Date: April 30, 2017

Speaker: Nathan Joyce

Series: Last Breath

Scripture: John 19:30–19:30, Romans 2:15–2:15

I’ve seen the eyes of regret at the end of a person’s life. They are frightening. Heavy. Saturated with pain. We have learned a lot of methods of deflecting the guilt we feel from our past and our sin. Most of the time we stay busy and distracted to not have to think deeply about the pain of regret. We have found ways to deal with a conscience that reminds us of the stain of our sin. But something happens in our final moments. We can’t help ourselves in that moment. We assess our life; the good, the bad and the ugly. Instinctively we know we are about to be held accountable for it all. It’s heavy enough to break a person. The good news is you don’t have to live and die with the ache of regret always knocking on your door. The gospel of Jesus can clear your guilty record and with it your conscience too so that in your last breath your words will be, “It is finished.”
