Scripture: 1 Corinthians 1:18–1:31
The cross represents a type of wisdom that is the reverse of our natural instincts. It is sacrifice rather than ease. It is generosity rather than gathering. It is love to enemies rather than hate or competition. It is humble service rather than power seeking. It is forgiveness instead of retaliation. It is losing your life instead of trying to save it. It is voluntary death instead of preserving and asserting our life.
This is why the cross seems foolish to those who do not believe. The cross represents a counter-cultural act that began a new world order. The church is the new world order and we love the foolishness of God because it is wiser than the so called wisdom of the world. We operate by the “foolish wisdom” of the cross knowing that it is brilliant.
So let’s change gears. Let’s live in reverse!
